Syed Irfan Ali is currently an Independent Director on the Board of UBL Currency Exchange (Private) Limited

A distinguished banking policy expert and advisor, Mr. Ali’s career spans over 33 years of leadership at the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and other Financial Institutions, where he held pivotal roles as Executive Director of the Financial Inclusion, Banking Policy & Regulation, and Banking Supervision Groups. Throughout his career, Mr. Ali was instrumental in shaping Pakistan’s financial landscape. His achievements include developing Prudential Regulations, modernizing banking statutes, and pioneering the “thematic inspection” concept as a foundation for risk-based supervision. He also played a critical role in the restructuring of financial institutions and advised the government on the privatization and merger of public sector banks.

Internationally, Mr. Ali has represented the SBP at prestigious forums including the World Bank, IMF, FATF/APG, and IADI. His technical expertise covers AML/CFT, digital banking, FinTech, and climate risk. Previously, he served as Director General of the Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU), Managing Director of the Deposit Protection Corporation (DPC), and President of IDBL.

Mr. Ali Holds MBA from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and Master of Arts in Banking and Finance from University of Wales. He is also a Certified Director from Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG) and a member of Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS).
